Dongmyo Flea Market

Dongmyo Flea Market began in the late 1980s. Although it has shrunk considerably compared with its former reputation, it still gathers all kinds of rare items. It covers everything from clothing, shoes, and wallets to watches, electronics, old books, and even movie posters. Most items here cost 1,000 won, to the point that it almost feels like they are free. The most popular item at Dongmyo Flea Market is surprisingly secondhand clothing. Merchants usually contract for a year to buy clothing collected in recycling bins at apartment complexes, paying 250 to 300 won per kilogram. Most clothes are priced at 1,000 won, but fur or leather items can cost in the 10,000-won range, and luxury goods can fetch more than 100,000 won. As word has spread, bargain hunters from the provinces also come here, and online shopping mall operators sometimes buy in bulk. Sunday afternoon, when around 250 street vendors set up their stalls, is the best time to shop.
