SEACTIVE-ZT is an anti-ageing and anti-blue light active ingredient based on the extract of the brown seaweed Zonaria tournefortii harvested in the pristine and clear waters of the Azorean sea, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This marine source was selected by Naturalis because of its particular photoprotection system and its richness in pigments that absorb radiations in the blue light range, such as chlorophyll, carotenoids and phlorotannins, extracted by ultrasound assisted extraction (UAE), designed to keep the phytocomplex as unaltered as possible. Phlorotannins are highly hydrophilic polyphenolic compounds that comprise about 20% of the dry seaweed and their antioxidant activity is equal to that of catechins and twice that of resveratrol. These molecules are also inhibitor of melanogenesis by inhibition of tyrosinase by chelating copper.
