Hanbok at the palace: makeup and skin tips for the day

Renting a hanbok and taking photos​around Gyeongbokgung or Changdeokgung has become a classic Seoul experience. But many people say that once they're there, it'stheir face and skin they end up worrying about, not the outfit. Here are the tips that come up most.

Makeup

• Hanbok colours are bold, so many suggest a bit more colour on lips or cheeks so your face doesn't fade out in photos
• Some rental shops offer hair styling too, so ask when booking
• The collar sits against your neck and can pick up foundation; people often keep the neck area light

Skin

• Palaces have wide courtyards with little shade. Wear sunscreen, and bring some to reapply if you'll be there long
• In high summer, hanbok can be surprisingly warm; blotting papers or a compact powder help

• Rentals are time-limited, so keep your route short
