Packaging is often the sneaky second MOQ: one supplier may quote the bottle, pump and cap separately, while a printer or box vendor has different minimums and lead times. The unit price can look fine until you add setup fees, color matching, freight, and leftover components that don’t fit the next production run.

Before locking the formula, ask every vendor for a quote at your actual first-run volume and at a couple of higher breakpoints. Confirm whether the MOQ is per component, color, finish, or artwork version; whether samples count toward it; and what happens if components arrive with defects. Also check compatibility early—neck finish, pump dosage, dip tube length, and whether the formula needs light- or air-protective packaging.

For a first launch, stock components with custom labels or sleeves can be a useful way to keep the brand look without committing to custom-molded packaging. Build a small buffer into the budget for packaging freight and QC, not just the quoted component cost. Which component has been the hardest to source at a manageable MOQ?
