How do you prepare your skincare for the wind and sun when traveling to Jeju?

There are lots of stories about skin getting rough after just a few days of travel in Jeju because the winds are strong and the sun is intense. Especially when driving along coastal roads or hiking up oreums.

In Jeju, it’s practical to focus on sun protection and moisturizing against the wind rather than adding a lot to your usual routine. Before heading out, apply a thin layer of moisturizer, then apply plenty of SPF 30~50+ sunscreen to your face, ears, and neck. UVA can get in even when the windows are closed on coastal roads, and oreums have little shade, so a hat and sunglasses can help too. If you’ll be outdoors for a long time, reapply according to the product directions, and top up sooner if you’ve been sweating or gotten wet.

If the wind tends to leave your cheeks or the area around your mouth feeling tight, bring a cream with ceramides or glycerin and apply another thin layer as needed. Also pack lip balm. It’s usually best not to start using a new exfoliant or retinoid right before your trip. At night, remove sunscreen thoroughly with a gentle cleanser and finish with your usual moisturizer—that’s enough. If you suddenly develop severe redness or pain, we recommend seeing a dermatologist rather than trying to manage it with cosmetics.
