Splurge vs save in Korean skincare: where does the money actually matter?
Korean skincare has great options at every price. A useful rule: save on steps that rinse off, spend where formulas are hard to make well.

That’s a solid rule of thumb, with one tweak: spend for a formula or texture you’ll use consistently, not just a premium label. Cleansers are usually easy to save on if they rinse clean without leaving your skin tight; the same goes for basic sheet masks.
Sunscreen is the exception to “save on rinse-off, spend on leave-on”: it’s worth paying for a Korean SPF you’ll apply generously and reapply, but a higher price doesn’t guarantee better protection. Check the SPF/PA rating and buy from a reputable retailer. In Korea, look for 자외선차단제; PA++++ is the highest PA grade commonly shown on packaging.
For serums and moisturisers, price can reflect more elegant textures, packaging, or a particular active—not automatically better results. Compare ingredient lists and choose based on what you want the product to do. I’d be more cautious about splurging on devices: evidence and safety vary by device, so research the specific model rather than assuming a higher price means more benefit.
