Breakouts where your gym gear touches: helmet, chin strap, sports bra lines

Friction plus sweat plus time is a classic recipe for breakouts along straps and bands. It is often called acne mechanica, and the fix is usually more about habits than a new serum.

The boring fixes are usually the useful ones here: loosen or adjust gear so it doesn’t rub more than necessary, and change out of sweaty clothes soon after training. Wash helmet liners, chin straps, and sports bras regularly according to their care labels; letting sweat and product residue build up can add to the irritation. If washing gear isn’t practical, a clean, dry barrier layer may help reduce rubbing—just make sure it doesn’t bunch up or create more pressure.

After a workout, rinse or gently cleanse the area, then use a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer. If you already tolerate salicylic acid, a low-strength leave-on product can be worth considering on breakout-prone areas, but start a few times a week rather than layering it on after every session. Skip scrubbing; friction is already doing plenty. Persistent, painful, or deep bumps deserve a dermatologist’s opinion, since not every strap-line breakout is acne.
