5 Things to Check Before Booking a Dermatology Clinic in Seoul

If you’re booking a procedure while traveling, check “who will examine and perform the procedure” and how specific the explanation is before looking at promotional before-and-after photos. Here are five things to check before booking.

1. Whether a doctor will examine you: Check whether the procedure is decided by a counselor alone. Confirm which doctor will be responsible and which steps the doctor will perform.
2. Procedure name, device, and treatment area: Ask for the device or medication name and the area to be treated. “Laser” alone is too broad.
3. Total cost and additional charges: Check whether tax is included and whether anesthesia, follow-up visits, or medication cost extra. Keep a written record of the estimate.
4. Downtime and impact on your trip: Check the expected redness, swelling, and bruising; how long to avoid bathing and sunlight; and whether you have enough time before your return flight.
5. Contact information in case of problems: Check who to contact outside clinic hours, how to arrange a follow-up visit, and whether an interpreter is available.

In Korean, you can say “시술 담당 의사와 상담할 수 있나요?（Can I speak with the doctor who will perform the procedure?）” and “추가 비용이 있나요?（Are there any additional charges?）”. For symptoms that go beyond appearance-related concerns, such as a changing mole or a painful lump, prioritize an examination by a dermatologist rather than booking a cosmetic procedure.
