Why European retailers keep adding K-beauty shelves (and what they ask brands for)

K-beauty sections have been showing up in more European drugstores and online retailers. Buyers are attracted by sunscreen textures, gentle actives and price points, but they also ask practical questions early.

The shelf appeal is only half the story. European buyers also want a dependable supply plan: clear EU Responsible Person and compliance documentation, localized labels and claims, batch traceability, and a realistic lead time for replenishment. For sunscreen, they’ll scrutinize the product’s status and testing for the markets where it will be sold; a popular Korean SPF isn’t automatically ready for every European channel.

They’ll also ask whether the range is easy to merchandise: a few clear hero products, readable usage guidance, pricing that leaves room for retailer margins, and enough education to explain unfamiliar ingredients without overclaiming. “Gentle” and “reef-safe” aren’t magic claim words—substantiation and local rules matter.

For brands, the strongest pitch is usually less “K-beauty is trending” and more: here’s the compliant assortment, here’s the evidence behind the claims, and here’s how we’ll keep it in stock. Which hurdle seems hardest for smaller brands: compliance, logistics, or standing out on shelf?
