"Soothing" ingredients made you redder? When centella or heartleaf does not agree
Centella (cica), heartleaf, mugwort, propolis: in K-beauty these are practically synonyms for "calming". Yet forums have plenty of posts saying "my soothing cream made me redder."
Points that come up often
- Plant extracts are mixtures in themselves, so some people simply do not tolerate a given one
- The same headline ingredient comes with different fragrance, essential oils or preservatives in each product
- The "calming" label tempts people to pile several on when skin is already reactive
- Some people who react to plants in the daisy family say they are careful with related extracts
What people usually do
- Write down the ingredient lists of products that caused a reaction and look for shared raw materials
- Switch for a while to a simple moisturiser with few plant extracts
- If it keeps happening, ask a dermatologist about patch testing
"Natural and calming means gentle" does not hold for everyone.
Has a "soothing" ingredient ever backfired on you?
