Korea warns: that single-use vial is a serum, not eye drops
Those tiny single-dose vials are cute and travel-friendly. They also look a lot like disposable artificial tears, and Korea's food and drug safety ministry (MFDS) issued a warning about exactly that in August 2026.
What happened:
- The ministry and the Korea Consumer Agency told 4 companies to change containers and packaging so their cosmetics are not mistaken for eye drops
- The consumer agency found 21 cases from January 2021 to June 2026 of people putting a non-eye product in their eyes by mistake
- Warnings were printed on the box or sales page, but hard to see on the single vial itself
- The ministry plans a law change to ban cosmetic packaging that imitates medicines
If it happens: rinse right away with saline or clean water, and see an eye doctor if irritation continues.
