Do you really need to double cleanse every night?
Double cleansing, an oil or balm first and a water-based cleanser second, is one of the best-known Korean habits. But skincare forums keep asking the same thing: is it needed on a no-makeup day?
The usual reasoning
- Oil-based cleansers dissolve sunscreen, makeup and sebum well
- The second cleanse removes the oily residue and what's left
When people say it matters most
- Waterproof or long-wear makeup
- Water-resistant or very filmy sunscreen
- Oily skin at the end of a humid day
When many skip it
- Dry or sensitive skin that feels stripped after two rounds
- A light sunscreen and no makeup, where one gentle cleanser does the job
- Mornings, where a rinse or a mild cleanser is usually enough
A common middle ground: double cleanse on makeup or heavy-SPF days, single cleanse otherwise.
What is your rule: always, sometimes, or never? And what skin type are you?
