Mine: “more fermented extracts = automatically better” is mostly marketing shorthand. Ferments can be lovely, but the full formula, concentration, and whether your skin tolerates it matter more than a trendy ingredient list.

Also, double cleansing isn’t mandatory every night. If you wore water-resistant sunscreen or makeup, an oil cleanser followed by a gentle cleanser can make sense; for a light day, one thorough cleanse may be enough. And sunscreen reapplication depends on exposure—outdoors for hours is different from sitting away from windows all day. The useful rules are the ones that fit the day, not a routine checklist.

    1. I'll add one editor's opinion: Many say the “7-skin method” works well for dry skin, but people with oily or combination skin also often say it just leaves them feeling sticky. The point is that it isn't the right method for everyone.

    1. I don't think “toner should be used with a cotton pad” is necessarily true either. What do you think?

I agree. Using a cotton pad isn't essential for toner; applying it with your hands is fine, too. A cotton pad can make it easier to spread the product evenly, but repeatedly rubbing or soaking it and swiping it back and forth over your skin tends to increase friction. With your hands, simply pressing in an appropriate amount is often enough. For products such as exfoliating toners where the manufacturer recommends using a cotton pad, follow the directions, but stop if you experience irritation or redness. In the end, the right approach is “the way of using it that suits your skin,” not the tool.
