If you’re a summer cool light, you’re less likely to go wrong if you start with clear, low-saturation cool pinks and roses rather than a deep fuchsia. But even within “summer cool,” there are big differences in lightness and saturation, so instead of swatching on your wrist, it’s better to apply a thin layer to your lips and check whether it makes your face look more defined. If your natural lip color is deep, the same shade may look deeper on you, too.
My recommendation is to apply a moisturizing pink tint in a thin layer, then dab gloss only onto the center of your lips. If you want a velvet finish, clear rose pink may feel lighter on a light tone than a grayish dried rose. Orange and brown aren’t necessarily off-limits either; choosing a shade with a pink or plum base can make them easier to wear. Look for “cool pink,” “lavender pink,” or “rose pink” in stores, and if possible, check the color after it stains, too.
