Korean 'hair treatment' vs conditioner: is there really a difference?
In Korean shops you will see hair treatment (트리트먼트) on almost every hair shelf, often sold next to conditioner or instead of it. Visitors regularly ask what the difference is.
How the terms tend to be used:
- Conditioner (린스): a lighter rinse-off that smooths the hair surface and helps detangling.
- Treatment: usually a richer rinse-off, sometimes left on for a few minutes, aimed at dry or damaged lengths.
- Hair mask / pack: similar to treatment, often used once or twice a week.
- Leave-in essence or oil: applied to towel-dried hair and not rinsed.
The labels are not strictly defined, so the texture and instructions on the back matter more than the name.
Common habits people describe:
-
Treatment on the lengths only, keeping it off the scalp if it gets oily fast.
-
Wrapping hair in a warm towel while it sits.
-
Finishing with a few drops of hair oil on the ends.
Do you use conditioner, treatment, or both? And has the "treatment" step made a real difference for your hair?
