Two sunscreen recalls this year, same reason: the SPF may not match the label
2026 has been a rough year for sunscreen trust. Two recalls stand out, and both come down to the number on the tube.
Medik8 (Australia and New Zealand): On April 1, 2026, all unexpired batches of Medik8 Physical Sunscreen SPF 50+ (15 ml, 60 ml and 60 ml Professional) were voluntarily recalled. Independent testing showed the product is unlikely to meet its SPF 50+ rating. Affected stock was sold between August 2023 and March 2026.
Allies of Skin: On August 12, 2026, the brand recalled all lots of The One SPF 50 Invisible Sunscreen Gel, saying its own testing found it may not reliably provide SPF 50.
What to do: check the brand's recall page for batch codes and refunds. A lower real SPF means more sunburn risk.
