Beauty shopping in Seoul: how 'tax free' works without the headache

One of the most common pre-trip questions: will I get the tax back on what I buy at Olive Young or brand stores? Often yes, but it helps to know how it generally works:

• Look for the "Tax Free"​or"Tax Refund" sign at the entrance or till.

• Carry your physical passport: it's needed to apply the refund. A photo on your phone usually won't do.

• Some shops apply an instant discount​at the till; others give you a receipt to claim later atkiosks or counters (at the airport, for example).

• There are minimum amounts per purchase and rules that change over time: check official sources before you travel.

• Keep products unopened in case you're asked to show them when leaving the country.

A tip forums repeat: group purchases in one shop on the same day to reach the minimum, rather than buying bits here and there.
