"Moisturise while skin is still damp": why everyone says it

One tip that shows up in every dry-season thread is "put moisturiser on right after washing, while skin is still damp."Some quote a specific number of minutes, but the point is simplyto seal skin before it dries out.

How it is usually explained

  • Water on the surface evaporates quickly after cleansing, and skin tends to lose moisture along with it
  • On slightly damp skin, moisturiser spreads easily, so a small amount covers evenly
  • Press water off with a towel rather than rubbing

The order many people follow

  1. Wash with lukewarm water
  2. Pat with a towel to remove excess water
  3. Toner or essence, then lotion or cream straight away
  4. An extra layer of cream on dry spots

One caveat

  • Some people find that potentially irritating products such as acids or retinoids sting more on damp skin, so many prefer to apply those on fully dry skin.

How long is the gap between washing and moisturising for you? Do you apply right there in the bathroom?
