The VAT refund on cosmetic procedures for tourists has ended (for now)
If you're planning a skin treatment in Korea, here's a change to know. The special rule that refunded VAT to foreign touristson cosmetic and dermatology procedures has ended, and abill to bring it back until 31 December 2027 is still under review in the National Assembly.
What the reporting confirms:
- The extension bill was filed in April and referred to a parliamentary subcommittee on 29 July
- The Korean Society of Plastic Surgeons says foreign patient numbers fell 20–30% after the refund stopped
- The industry worries patients will move to Japan, Thailand or Dubai
What it means for travellers:
- Prices you saw in older reviews "after refund" may no longer apply
- When you get a quote, ask whether VAT is included
- Even if the bill passes, the start date will be set separately, so check official announcements
And whatever the price, a consultation with a licensed doctor comes before any decision.
