Stocked up on K-beauty in Seoul? How to read expiry dates and PAO symbols
With 1+1 deals everywhere, it's easy to come home from Korea with a whole box. Then the question: when will I use all this, and will it expire first?
Two different dates
- Expiry date: for the unopened product. Korean boxes often show 사용기한 or 유통기한 with a date
- Period after opening (PAO): the little open-jar icon with 6M, 12M and so on, meaning use within that many months once opened
Stockpile tips
- Sort by expiry and open the earliest first
- Don't open several of the same thing at once
- Store somewhere cool and dark, not a bathroom windowsill or a car
- Pay extra attention to opening dates for sunscreen and vitamin C products
Stop using on your face if
- The smell or colour changes clearly, or it separates
- It suddenly stings or causes redness
