One free day in Seoul: which day trip would you actually take?
A lot of itineraries have one open day, and the “best day trip from Seoul” question comes up constantly. These are the names that keep appearing, with the trade-offs people mention:
- Suwon (Hwaseong Fortress): reachable by subway, good for a half day walking the walls.
- Incheon (Chinatown, Songdo): close to the airport, easy to fit on the first or last day.
- Gapyeong / Nami Island area: scenic and popular, but weekends get crowded and transport takes planning.
- Jeonju (hanok village, food): a KTX ride away, so it works as a long day or better as an overnight.
- The DMZ: only on organised tours, which need booking ahead and a passport on the day.
