Naver, Kakao or Google: which map app actually got you around Korea?
Map apps come up in almost every first-timer thread about Korea, and opinions are strong.
What people usually say
- Naver Map: detailed transit routes, exits and walking paths; has an English interface; place names can still show in Korean.
- Kakao Map: popular with locals, good bus info, handy if you already use Kakao T for taxis.
- Google Maps: familiar and great for saving lists and reading reviews in your language, but weaker for step-by-step directions in Korea.
Many travellers end up using two apps: one to plan and save, another to actually walk the route. A tip that comes up a lot: search in Korean when you can (copy the name from the shop's sign or website), because English spellings vary.
