Where to go after Myeongdong? A guide to walking Hannam-dong
Hannam-dong is one of the areas the Korea Tourism Organization is promoting to Japanese travellers alongside Seongsu. Unlike busy Myeongdong, it is known as a calmer, more grown-up shopping neighbourhood.
What kind of area is it?
- A hilly residential district near Itaewon, between Namsan and the Han River
- Dotted with brand flagship stores, select shops, galleries and cafés
- Known for experience-style stores from Korean cosmetics and fragrance brands

- It is hilly, so wear comfortable shoes
- Many shops open around midday, so early mornings are quiet
- It is not a big-drugstore strip like Myeongdong; think of it as a "look and try" neighbourhood
- Some people pair half a day here with Itaewon or Seongsu

- Many stores reportedly let you try fragrance and body care with testers
- Popular shops can have entry queues at weekends
It is often recommended to repeat visitors who are a little tired of the busy classic spots.
