It’s better to look at the ingredients and directions for use first, rather than the shape of the pad. Pads for exfoliation and sebum may contain salicylic acid (SALICYLIC ACID) or PHA, while hydrating and soothing pads may contain moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin (GLYCERIN) and panthenol (PANTHENOL). However, even “soothing” pads may contain fragrance or acids, so checking the full ingredient list is essential.
For wipe-off use, don’t rub hard; gently swipe once, following the texture of your skin. In particular, rather than using exfoliating pads several times every day, start at a low frequency according to the product directions, and take a break if you experience stinging or dryness. If they’re hydrating pads meant to be left on, place them briefly on dry or red-looking areas and remove them before they dry out. Leaving acid pads on for a long time like a mask can cause irritation. Either way, trying a new product on a small area first can give you peace of mind.
Can I use an exfoliating toner pad in the morning before sunscreen?
Yes, if your skin tolerates it and the product’s directions allow morning use—but start cautiously. Exfoliating pads with AHAs, BHAs (like salicylic acid), or PHAs can make skin feel more sensitive or dry, so try them just 1–2 mornings a week at first, swipe gently once, and follow with moisturizer and broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+). Don’t use the pad like a scrub, and avoid stacking it with other exfoliants or retinoids in the same routine until you know how your skin responds. If you notice persistent stinging, redness, or flaking, pause it and simplify your routine. If the label says nighttime use, stick with that.
