More breakouts since you started a pore primer: is the primer really to blame?

Silicone pore primers that blur texture are a makeup staple for many people. At the same time, "I started a primer and got more tiny bumps" is a common post.

Points people often raise

  • Many argue the issue is less the silicone and more how it gets removed: one splash of water does not always take it off.

  • The habit of layering primer, foundation and powder thickly

  • Different products contain different oils and waxes

  • The timing may simply overlap with when breakouts would have come anyway

What people often change

  • Use a small amount only where pores bother you
  • In the evening, start with an oil or balm cleanser, then a gentle wash
  • Leave it out for about a month and compare

Since the same product suits some people and not others, the common conclusion is that comparing on your own skin is the most reliable test.

Do you use primer? Did your skin change after starting it?
