How to Apply Hand Cream Properly During the Dry-Hand Season
With hand cream, timing matters more than applying “a lot.” It’s most effective to dry your hands and apply it right after washing them.

That’s right. After washing your hands, gently pat them dry and apply cream while your skin is still slightly damp to help reduce the feeling of dryness. First dispense some onto the backs of your hands, rub the backs of both hands together, then spread a thin layer over your palms, between your fingers, and around your nails. To keep your palms from feeling slippery, it’s enough to apply only the amount left over at the end.
On days when you wash your hands often or are exposed to cold wind, you can reapply before going out, and you can also apply a thicker layer than usual at night. If you’re sensitive to fragrance or essential oils, choose an unscented product. If you have deep cracks or ongoing redness and stinging, it’s best to get it checked by a dermatologist.
