Taking a box of Korean skincare home: carry-on, checked bags and customs

Shopping was fun; packing is where it gets real: how do you get all these bottles home? The questions people ask most (always check your airline's and your customs authority's latest rules).

Carry-on

• Liquids, creams and sprays have a per-container limit and go in a clear bag
• Anything over the limit has to go in checked luggage
• Liquids bought at airport duty-free are usually sealed in a special bag; don't open it during a transfer

Checked bags

• Bag each bottle separately and tape the caps, since pressure changes can cause leaks
• Nest glass bottles in the middle of your clothes, not against the case walls
• Check airline rules on aerosol cans

On arrival

• Personal-use goods have a duty-free allowance; above it you may need to declare and pay tax
• Obviously large quantities may not be treated as personal use
• Look up your own country's customs rules before you fly
