Apgujeong Rodeo Street: how to shop Seoul's original luxury-fashion beauty district
Across the street from Galleria Department Store's Luxury Hall runs an L-shaped strip about 422 meters long: Apgujeong Rodeo Street. It got its name from Beverly Hills' Rodeo Drive, and it became Korea's first real fashion district back in the mid-1980s, when top designers moved their ateliers here from Myeongdong. In 2008 the city gave it official status as a "fashion special district." Today it sits alongside about 100 fashion businesses — brand flagships, imported multi-brand boutiques, independent designer stores — plus a dense cluster of hair salons, aesthetic/dermatology clinics, cafés and restaurants.
For a beauty-focused visitor, the appeal isn't one flagship megastore; it's the density. You can walk past a perfumer's boutique, a K-beauty brand's design-forward flagship, a cosmetic clinic building, and a hair salon that styles idols, all within a few blocks, then step into Galleria's Luxury Hall or over to Haus Nowhere Dosan without changing trains. It works best as a slow walk rather than a checklist.
On travel forums and blogs, recurring themes show up: people say the street feels quieter and more "grown-up" than Myeongdong or Hongdae, with fewer hard-sell tactics; several mention that prices at boutiques here run higher than in Myeongdong, so it's better for browsing flagship concept stores than for bargain hunting; and more than one post warns that many shops open late morning and the street can feel sleepy before noon.
Practical info: Location: Apgujeong 2-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, facing Galleria Department Store Nearest station: Apgujeong Rodeo Station (Suin-Bundang Line) is right on the street; Apgujeong Station (Line 3) and Gangnam-gu Office Station (Line 7) are about a 15-minute walk Hours: shop hours vary by store; most open from late morning, and boutiques tend to stay open into the evening Tax refund: available at individual stores that participate in the tax-free scheme — ask at the till, as not every small boutique offers it
Nearby: Galleria Department Store Luxury Hall (across the street), Haus Nowhere Dosan and the Dosan Park shopping street, both a short walk away.
Question for readers: if you only had two hours on this street, would you spend it browsing flagship concept stores or ducking into a hair salon for a K-style cut?
