In an Olive Young haul, the item everyone argued about was a setting spray

On Taiwan's PTT forum (MakeUp board), someone shared an April haul from Olive Young in Korea: Espoir's glow foundation, Clio's snowflake highlighter, So Natural's setting spray, a Too Cool For School aegyo-sal pencil, Banila Co cleansing balm, Torriden serum and lotion, a Muzigae Mansion lip glaze, Round Lab and Illiyoon lotions, and Ariul eye-and-lip remover pads. The setting spray got the highest praise: the mist was finer, the poster said, than any department-store or drugstore spray they had used.

Sixty-plus replies, and nearly all of them circled that spray:

  • Plenty of fans: a fine, even mist, several repurchases, and some said it was finer than Shu Uemura's.

  • The scent split people: described as a baby-powder, old-school "makeup" smell, it gave some a nice getting-ready feeling and put others off entirely.

  • Criticism from very oily skin was specific: shiny after about five hours so "not worth spraying", needing three or four layers to work, leaving marks on face masks and feeling tacky, and one person's nozzle eventually split into a jet.

  • The Espoir foundation's glow was praised, though one person said it slid off quickly in Taiwan's mild heat once home.

  • The Ariul pads were called great for travel and good on mascara, at the cost of feeling oily. One person also admitted that K-beauty looks irresistible from Taiwan, yet in a Korean drugstore they wanted nothing.

Verdict on the spray: everyone agrees the mist is fine; longevity and scent depend on your skin and your nose.

Desk note: How long a setting spray lasts also depends on how much you use, how far away you spray and the base underneath, so the same product can behave very differently on dry and very oily skin. If fragrance bothers you or your skin is sensitive, check the ingredient list for Fragrance/Parfum, or try a spritz in store before buying.

Is setting spray a must-have for you, or a nice-to-have?
