r-(Methionyl sh-Oligopeptide-85) is a single chain recombinant peptide, produced by fermentation in E. coli. The starting gene is synthesized by the fusion of the gene from sh-Oligopeptide-85 with the initiation code for methionine. The fusion peptide contains 56 amino acids in which 4 amino acids are substituted. The peptide may contain disulfide bonds and/or glycosylation, and it consists of the proper sequence of the 20 standard amino acids.
