콜라겐
COLLAGEN
Definition
Collagens. A fibrous protein comprising one third of the total protein in mammalian organisms. It is a polypeptide containing three peptide chains and rich in proline and hydroxyproline

Points to consider
Collagen supplementation and topical use are typically safe and well tolerated with minimal adverse effects reported. Formulation quality affects topical collagen stability and efficacy.
Usage reference
Collagen is an abundant extracellular matrix protein forming the scaffold structure of skin, bones, and connective tissues. Aging causes collagen to degrade and production to decline, leading to wrinkles, sagging, and thinning skin. Collagen peptides in supplements or topical products can stimulate fibroblasts to increase collagen and elastin synthesis, restoring skin structure and resilience. Oral collagen peptides are absorbed and distributed to connective tissue, promoting tighter skin and improved hydration. Topical collagen provides surface hydration though its high molecular weight limits penetration into deeper layers. Additionally, collagen exhibits antioxidant properties reducing oxidative stress, boosts skin repair processes, and slows aging by downregulating metalloproteinases responsible for collagen breakdown. Clinical studies indicate improvements in skin elasticity, density, wrinkle reduction, hydration, and texture with collagen supplementation or topical use.
