BHA is a mixture of isomers of tertiary butyl-substituted 4-methoxyphenols. It consists chiefly of 3-t-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole with lesser amounts of 2-t-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole. It conforms generally to the formula:
