FDA-approved for acne treatment at concentrations between 2.5% and 10%. Considered safe for topical use. Possible side effects include dryness, redness, peeling, or mild irritation, especially when used in higher concentrations or combined with other potent actives.

Benzoyl Peroxide works by releasing oxygen free radicals, which kill Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes), the bacteria responsible for acne. It also helps to exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce comedones by promoting skin cell turnover, which prevents clogged pores.
